Interpersonal Conflict Resolution (14 hours – 2 days)
This course enables participants to deal with conflict more effectively. Conflict can begin as a one-on-one disagreement over a simple issue, but can grow to involve a number of issues which in turn affect more people. Alternately, conflicts often fester in silence when the affected people choose not to resolve the topic; the emotional shut-down that results can stifle communication, honesty, creativity and efficiency. The ability to work through misunderstandings and disagreements collaboratively is an indispensable skill, especially in a work environment.
Conflict Coaching (14 hours – 2 days)
This course teaches participants a step by step framework for the coaching process, as well as fundamental attitudes and key skills for implementation. Conflict resolution coaching is an informal third-party approach, which supports and encourages people in conflict to address their concerns and create joint solutions. Informal conflict resolution coaches are drawn into a conflict because of their skill, caring or proximity to the conflict. Because of their closeness to the parties involved and the likelihood of maintaining an ongoing relationship with at least one of the parties, coaches are not impartial. This puts them in a unique conflict resolution situation. Unlike mediators, coaches are able to draw on examples from shared history, and highlight a party’s previous experiences and successes.
Dealing with Anger in Conflict (14 hours – 2 days)
This course focuses on developing an understanding of the impact that anger can have in conflict situations. Participants have the opportunity to increase self-awareness about their own patterns and beliefs about anger. Interactive exercises, group discussions and videos are used to teach specific skills and concepts that enable participants to learn both about managing their own anger and responding to another’s anger effectively.
Mediation Skills Level 1 (20 hours – 3 days)
This course teaches participants the essentials of resolving interpersonal conflict through mediation. It also provides participants with a working knowledge of the four stages of mediation through numerous opportunities to practice the communication skills and other techniques needed by the mediator. Role plays and a simulation of real-life conflict scenarios are used throughout the training to allow participants to practice mediating and advance their communication skills. Experienced and trained mediators are involved by coaching participants in role plays. Interpersonal Conflict Resolution is a prerequisite for this course.
Mediation Skills Level 2 (20 hours – 3 days)
This course assumes participants have a basic working knowledge of the mediation model and have some mediation experience as it moves to a deeper level of analysis of conflict and the role of a mediator. Besides role playing, topic areas include identifying issues, reframing, separate meetings, case development, mirroring, redirecting and mediating with more than two disputants. Issues such as the healing process, mediator bias and complicating factors are also addressed. Experienced and trained mediators are involved by coaching participants in role plays.
